Are you interested in running a debt-free dental practice? Do you seek a balance between your practice’s profitability and your lifestyle? Tune in to hear leading dental consultant Dr. Bill Blatchford’s strategies for finding a balance that allows you to live debt-free while living the lifestyle of your dreams.

As many accountants will tell you, the secret to outrunning the overhead of managing a dental practice is increasing your income and lowering expenses. Although that seems like the obvious answer, the details are sometimes difficult to work out. The major categories of overhead expenses to consider when trying to maximize your income and minimize your expenses include the following:

  1. Salary (30%)
  2. Lab fees (8-9%)
  3. Dental supplies (5%)
  4. Rent (3-5%)
  5. Equipment (3-5%)
  6. Office supplies (1-2%)
  7. Marketing (ideally 3-10%)
  8. Miscellaneous

At the end of the day, your net income and your overhead are choices that you make. Take control of your schedule by calculating the cost per unit of each dental procedure to really understand the value of your time and the worth of your service. Reduce the number of days that you work, raise your daily collection goal, schedule effectively, and achieve your goal everyday and you’ll be amazed at the results.
